Meet John Cruikshank
John Cruikshank is a candidate for Los Angeles County Supervisor in the Fourth District which is the southeastern portion of LA County including 32 Incorporated cities and 13 unincorporated areas. He will be an effective Supervisor helping the County solve the real, pressing issues that affect all residents. His Core Four focus areas are Economic Empowerment, Homelessness, Infrastructure, and Public Safety.
John is currently President & CEO of JMC2, a California civil and structural engineering corporation he founded in 1996. Because of his involvement with hundreds of unique engineering projects, John leverages that experience to successfully support his client’s critical projects. His current responsibilities include corporate leadership, client relations, business development, community outreach, project management, and work as an expert witness.
John started his career working for Caltrans (Los Angeles) then two civil engineering firms prior to starting his own. His company was involved with an extreme engineering event, Heaven Sent, in 2016 where a sky diving world record was set. He is currently working on the 2nd of a series of Extreme Engineering events. His team represents two leading technology companies – Sensequake and EZ-Riser Roof Raising – that leverage their engineering capabilities.
John attended the University of Southern California (USC) where he received his Bachelor of Science in Building Science in 1988. He became a Registered Civil Engineer in the State of California in 1993. He is a licensed professional engineer in more than 30 states. He obtained his Master of Science in Engineering Management from USC in 1994.
In addition to his many years as a civil engineer, John is currently a Board Member and Past President of the Harbor Association of Industry and Commerce where he formed their Workforce Development Committee. In 2017, he was named a Fellow with the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), awarded Alumni of the Year from USC’s School of Civil Engineering, and elected as a City Councilmember for the City of Rancho Palos Verdes. He is currently the Mayor Pro Tem in Rancho Palos Verdes where he also represents his city as Chair of the South Bay Cities Council of Government. He is currently running for Los Angeles County Supervisor.
John lives in Rancho Palos Verdes with his wife, Jennifer and son, Sean, who is a Senior at Arizona State University.
