In the exhaustive Brandon Aiyuk contract negotiation saga, any wrinkle in the stalemate has the potential to become headline news. Greg Papa kicked off his afternoon show with John Lund on Wednesday by predicting that the 49ers star wide receiver may practice this afternoon as the team prepares for its week one matchup against the Jets.
“The word is that the plan is that they’re treating this like the first day of Jets week, and that Brandon Aiyuk is going to practice today at 3:10,” Papa said to Lund. “Out there for a a walk through at 3:00 and practice at 3:10. It sounds like Brandon will practice today.”
Time is running out for San Francisco to reach a happy agreement with both Aiyuk and superstar left tackle Trent Williams in time for both to be ready for the September 9 season opener. If Aiyuk does practice this afternoon, it would mirror the “hold-in” activity of some of his contemporaries.
