Los Angeles has a new budget. The City Council approves the new spending plan with a sizable increase to public safety.
Restoring essential services, staffing levels and assistance programs are the hallmarks of this year’s 8-point-6-billion dollar budget. The City proposes to spend 11-million dollars more than asked for by Mayor Garcetti for improvements and staffing for public safety. The council’s budget adds $4.5 million for two more firefighter-training classes, which would allow the fire department to hire 270 recruits, more than the 180 recruits this year.
