Teamsters President James P. Hoffa came to the Port of Long Beach Tuesday to stand with striking drivers at odds with trucking companies who classify them as independent contractors.
“And the answer is ending wage theft! Wage theft ends here today! Lets to that together!”
Teamsters’ President James P. Hoffa likens the independent contractor model at use in the ports to old company store where worker wages are subtracted for materials needed to do the job:
“They check off for everything they do, a quart of oil, rental for this, gasoline for this, we had one driver that worked 70 hours and got less than hundred dollars. You can’t live like that. And that’s what we wanna change.”
Hoffa says expanded labor actions against more companies will take place in the coming days. Tom Perumean, KABC NEWS.
