California is facing serious wildfires, prompting Assembly Republicans to call for stronger prevention efforts and changes to the state’s insurance system.  They are calling for a special session.

Assembly Republican Leader James Gallagher is referring to a postponed special session that was initially focused on President-elect Donald Trump and protecting the state from potential legal fights with Trump and his administration.  Gallagher and other Republican leaders aim to streamline wildfire prevention projects and give them full funding and bring transparency and stabilization to the insurance market. They also say plans for home hardening will be resiliency to communities.  Gallagher says there also needs to be increased penalties for arsonists.
