An embattled Safeway in San Francisco is closing its doors for good. The Safeway grocery store on Webster Street in the Fillmore section will close in February of next year over concerns about safety problems and repeated thefts at the store.
Safeway had tried to close the store earlier this year, but San Francisco lawmakers pushed to keep it open, saying it was vital for the neighborhood. The store long ago closed its self-checkout stations due to shoplifting.
