The California Highway Patrol is starting its annual “maximum enforcement period” this week. It’s meant to promote safe driving and reduce fatal crashes during the Thanksgiving holiday. From Wednesday until December 1st, officers will check that everyone is wearing a seatbelt, not driving impaired, and following speed limits. Last year, over a thousand people were arrested for DUI during the Thanksgiving enforcement period, and there were nearly 30 fatal crashes.
