A recent poll from the UC Berkeley Institute of Governmental Services shows strong support for Proposition 36 — a ballot measure to reinstate felony penalties for certain drug- and theft-related offenses.  The survey of just over three-thousand likely voters found that 60-percent support the measure, with 21-percent opposed and 19-percent undecided.

Another poll from the Public Policy Institute of California last month showed even stronger support, with 71-percent of likely voters in favor.  The measure has sparked debate about whether to prioritize rehabilitation and treatment for first-time offenders or enforce stricter penalties for lawbreakers.
