The FAA is expanding its investigation into Boeing’s 737 Max 9 quality control. In an email to its customers, Alaska Airlines CEO Ben Minicucci says they will continue to not fly the 737 Max 9 for an indefinite time.
The probe comes after a door plug came open on an Alaska Airlines flight earlier this month. In a statement, the FAA said it’s now looking into the contractor Spirit AeroSystems, which builds the aircraft’s fuselage.
The investigation is looking into how the plug, which is supposed to cover a space from a removed emergency exit door on the plane, blew off the plane and left a hole. Boeing said this week than in an effort to increase transparency, it will allow airlines into its factories.
