Texas Governor Greg Abbott has sent a bus with more than 40 migrants to Los Angeles.
Abbott tweeted the news Wednesday, saying that small Texas border towns are “overrun and overwhelmed” and called their removal a “much-needed relief.”
He added that Los Angeles is a city migrants seek out now that community leaders have “approved its self-declared sanctuary city status.”
The LA City Council recently approved a motion calling on various city departments to take the necessary steps for Los Angeles to officially become a sanctuary city for immigrants. It prohibit city cooperation with federal immigration authorities in “execution of their duties” as it pertains to immigration enforcement.
Officials say the migrants arrived after a nearly 24-hour long bus ride and were given food, shelter, and legal aid at a nearby church.
