(Undated) — Actor and comedian Richard Belzer is dead at age 78. That’s according to his friend and fellow comedian Laraine Newman. Belzer was best known for his role as John Munch on police drama “Law & Order.” He began playing the role in 1993 and reprised it 23 years across different incarnations of the show. The Connecticut native began his career as a comedian in 1972 before joining the initial run of “Saturday Night Live” in 1975. Belzer also appeared on “National Lampoon Radio Hour” alongside the likes of John Belushi, Chevy Chase, Bill Murray, and Gilda Radner. There’s no word on his cause of death.
