L.A. Archbishop Remembers Pope Benedict XVI

(Los Angeles, CA) — Los Angeles Archbishop Jose Gomez is paying tribute to Pope Emeritus Benedict the 16th. The Vatican announced today the pontiff died following a period of ill health. He was 95. Gomez said “as we mourn his loss, we celebrate his life because it was a life given in service to Jesus Christ.” The Archbishop added, “May Our Lady wrap him in the mantle of her love and may the angels lead him into paradise.” Benedict was elected pope in 2005 and resigned in 2013 due to health problems. He was the first pontiff in 600 years to step down. His funeral is scheduled for Thursday in Saint Peter’s Square.
