CA Ironman Race Concerns

(Sacramento, CA) — The Ironman California race is happening this month in Sacramento, and some are worried about safety on one part of the course because of the homeless population. The race attracts thousands of triathletes from around the world, training for months for the two-point-four-mile swim, one-hundred-12-mile bike ride and 26-point-two-mile run. Finishing the race isn’t the biggest concern for some athletes, but safety through Discovery Park is. The run includes a nine-mile stretch on the American River Parkway trail, and most will run while it’s still dark. The unhoused residents along the river have been talked to about the upcoming race and Rangers with Sacramento County Regional Parks will be patrolling the race course, making sure everyone is safe. The Ironman California race is October 23rd.
