Construction Of 101-Freeway Wildlife Crossing Begins

(Agoura Hills, CA) — Construction of the world’s largest wildlife crossing is underway on both sides of the 101-Freeway in Agoura Hills. Crews began grading the land on either side of the freeway Tuesday. The 85-million-dollar Wallis Annenberg Wildlife Crossing project is expected to be complete by 2025. When it is, animals like mountain lions will have a safe passage over ten lanes of the freeway. Five mountain lions have been killed trying to cross Southern California’s freeways in the past year. Most of the construction will be done at night, to avoid long freeway closures.
