Cali Prisoners Receive Training To Fight Fires

By

(Ventura, CA) — The Ventura Training Center has some new graduates ready to fight fires. That’s thanks to the CDCR and Cal Fire who operate fire camps and institutional firehouses for those who are incarcerated. Those in the program receive rehabilitation and job skills to help once they are no longer incarcerated. The Ventura Training Center then offers them an 18-month program to continue with their training. Twenty-six men are now fresh out of the program and ready to work for Cal Fire and other fire departments. Seventeen of them already have jobs. By law, if a person worked in the camp program, they are able to apply for an expungement which makes finding a job more accessible.
