Ex-Manson Follower Denied Parole For 1969 Murder

(Sacramento, CA) — A former Charles Manson follower will remain behind bars. Robert Beausoleil was denied parole Friday by a California state Board of Parole Hearings panel. The 74-year-old was among those convicted in connection with the July 1969 murder of musician Gary Hinman inside the victim’s home. Beausoleil was initially sentenced to death, but that sentence was later commuted to life in prison following a U.S. Supreme Court ruling on new requirements for capital cases. A state parole board panel recommended Beausoleil be granted parole in early 2019, but Governor Gavin Newsom later rejected the recommendation.
