(Washington, DC) — Deciding the rules of interstellar conduct and warfare is not just for the movies. Appearing on Fox News Sunday, U.S. Space Force General David Thompson warned that China is as much of a threat above the clouds as on the ground. As vice chief of space operations, General Thompson explained that not only will China have the most satellites in space by the end of the decade, their ability to weaponized equipment and destroy satellites is concerning. He noted recent talks have not gone well with either China and Russia and they refuse to abide by basic international principles of responsible behavior in space. Thompson’s comments come less than a month after Russia successfully destroyed one of its own satellites.
