DHS Looking To Cancel Immigration Program
(Washington, DC) — The head of Homeland Security says he’s working to stop the reimplementation of the policy known as “Remain in Mexico.” The Trump-era immigration protocol keeps asylum seekers south of the border while they wait for a court hearing. Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas says it does not address the root cause of what’s driving a record number of migrants to the southern border. In a statement, he says Remain in Mexico will restart next month as planned due to a court order. DHS will build temporary court facilities in Texas. Mayorkas promised to vigorously contest the ruling.
