(Los Angeles, CA) — L.A.’s City Council is approving a ban on setting up encampments at certain locations. In the 12-2 vote Wednesday, the council outlawed sitting, sleeping and lying down at 54 locations in three of its districts. This comes after the council enacted new rules regulating sitting, sleeping and storing property near fire hydrants, building entrances, driveways, libraries, parks, elementary schools and several other locations. The L.A. council also asked if resources for outreach to homeless people in these locations could be expanded. They urged city departments to draft new procedures making sure people sleeping on the sidewalk aren’t forced to move without proper notice.
