Ballot Measure Aims To Fix Imbalance of Unions Buying Elections

(Sacramento, CA) — Venture capitalist Timothy Draper is backing a move to gut collective bargaining for California public employees. In the official title and summary, which is written and approved by California’s far-left, hyper-partisan Attorney General, it says the proposed constitutional amendment “eliminates collective bargaining for teachers, police officers, nurses, firefighters, and other public employees. Secretary of State Shirley Weber’s office has cleared Draper and other supporters to start gathering the more than 997-thousand signatures required to get the measure on the ballot. They will have until next April to complete the task.

If passed by voters, the initiative would provide up to 12 months of severance pay to employees who resign within three months of measure’s enactment. The state legislative analyst says potential associated costs to the taxpayer could be more than a billion dollars, a small fraction of the cost of the bullet train or the theft of unemployment payments. Draper was also the driving force behind a recent failed ballot measure, which sought to split California into six separate states.
