(Chicago, IL) — McDonald’s is pledging to offer more sustainable Happy Meal toys by the end of 2025. The fast food giant has already cut down its use of fossil fuel-based plastic in its toys by 30-percent since 2018. If McDonald’s can reach the target announced Tuesday, the Illinois-based company will have cut out 90-percent of the less sustainable plastic it used in toys in 2018. More than 100 countries sell Happy Meals, and McDonald’s distributes over a billion Happy Meal toys a year worldwide. The company’s chief sustainability officer says the more eco-friendly toys will begin rolling out in the U.S. by January of next year.
