Aretha Franklin’s “Respect” Tops Rolling Stone 500 List
(Undated) — Rolling Stone is calling Aretha Franklin’s 1967 classic “Respect” the greatest song of all time. The rock magazine published its new list of the 500 greatest songs of all time this week, and gave top honors to Franklin’s number one single, which Rolling Stone said “catalyzed rock & roll, gospel, and blues to create the model for soul music that artists still look to today.” Coming in at number two on the Rolling Stone 500 is Public Enemy’s 1989 hit “Fight the Power,” and number three is Sam Cooke’s 1964 classic “A Change Is Gonna Come.”
