(Hampton County, SC) — The South Carolina man whose wife and son were shot in unsolved killings in June was in court over an alleged botched suicide plot. Attorney Alex Murdaugh sat in a jail jumpsuit in handcuffs in a Hampton County courtroom and heard multiple charges against him, including insurance fraud. Investigators say he recently planned his own shooting so that his son could collect a 10-million-dollar life insurance policy. A suspected co-conspirator was in court today and was granted a 55-thousand-dollar bond. A judge will allow Murdaugh to return to a rehab facility to be treated for an opioid addiction until he is required to be back in court.
Murdaugh’s wife and adult son, Paul, were murdered at the family’s hunting lodge in June. At the time of his death, Paul Murdaugh was awaiting trial on charges of boating while intoxicated in a 2019 crash that killed a 19-year-old woman.
