(Culver City, CA) — The new host who was supposed to take Alex Trebek’s place on “Jeopardy!” is stepping down effective immediately. Sony released a statement Friday written by Mike Richards. He apologized for the unwanted negative attention he has brought to the show recently and ended it by saying “I know I have a lot of work to do to regain your trust and confidence.” Richards said the game show already began production on its new season Thursday, but Friday’s tapings have been canceled. His announcement came two days after The Ringer website exposed offensive comments from his past. Sony is resuming its search for a permanent host for the beloved game show. In the meantime, guest hosts will continue to fill spots so production on the new season can continue.
