(San Luis Obispo, CA) — Some boat operators in California could be out of business if new air pollution regulations pass. Sportfishing and whale watching boats will be affected by a proposed rule requiring their engines to emit less carbon. Boat owner Wayne Bilcha, who operates out of Avila Beach, said the new requirements would shut down his sportfishing business. The new “tier four” engines burn cleaner, but can only be installed in steel boats. Bilcha’s boat is made of fiberglass. The Sportfishing Association of California is circulating a petition opposing the rule change at save-fishing-dot-com.
