Cost Of CA Recall Election Estimated At $276M: Seems Like a bargain

(Sacramento, CA) — The upcoming recall election of Governor Gavin Newsom will cost taxpayers 276-million dollars–cheap when compared to some other state expenditures. That’s the word today from California’s Department of Finance, where officials tabulated the cost of holding a special election. For comparison, the cost of the high speed rail project, now pegged at $100 billion, is 362 times more costly than the special election, and  the EDD fraud is more than 108 times more costly, making the cost of fulfilling a state constitutional provision seem downright cheap. The updated estimate now pegs the cost to California’s counties at 243-million dollars. That’s 28-million more than initial projections. California Secretary of State Shirley Weber says it will cost just over 32-million dollars to administer the recall election. The California legislature has already allocated a quarter-billion dollars toward the recall election, which is 26-million short of the newly projected totals. With the cost of the election finalized, California is now one step closer to learning the actual date of when it’ll happen.
