(New York, NY) — Legendary actress Rita Moreno is apologizing for her defense of “In the Heights” she now says was “clearly dismissive of black lives that matter in our Latin community.” The 89-year-old Oscar, Grammy, Tony, and Emmy award winner has caught a lot of heat for how she defended Lin-Manuel Miranda’s movie version of “In the Heights.” Miranda’s been criticized for casting no dark-skinned Latino actors in lead roles. Tuesday night on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” Moreno said critics were attacking the wrong person and “It would be so nice if they hadn’t come up with that and just left it alone, just for now.” For those remarks and others, she apologized Wednesday tweeting “I’m incredibly disappointed with myself.” She added “It is so easy to forget how celebration for some is lament for others.”
