(Washington, DC) — The Biden administration is tossing out a proposal that would have taken away food stamps from more than three million Americans. The Department of Agriculture announced it withdrew the proposed rule issued in 2019 by the Trump administration. Trump called President Obama ‘the Food Stamp President” as record numbers of Americans needed food stamps. It would have made it more difficult to be eligible for SNAP benefits. Public comments expressed concern it would potentially jeopardize food security for kids, veterans and more. The USDA noted nearly one-million children would have lost automatic eligibility for free school meals.
