(San Francisco, CA) — A now-defunct poop testing company in Northern California is facing federal fraud charges. A criminal indictment was handed down yesterday against the co-founders of biotech startup uBiome, accusing them of healthcare and wire fraud and conspiracy. It claims Jessica Richman and Zachary Apte tricked insurers with fake reimbursement documents for a medically-unnecessary fecal matter test. Separate S-E-C civil charges accuse the married couple of defrauding investors out of 60-million-dollars. Ubiome has been shut down since October 2019 when it filed for Chapter Seven bankruptcy.
