(New York, NY) — Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is calling for an investigation into Governor Andrew Cuomo’s growing COVID nursing home scandal. In a statement out Friday, the Democratic congresswoman said she stands “with our local officials calling for a full investigation of the Cuomo administration’s handling of nursing homes during COVID-19.” Both the FBI and U.S. attorney’s office are reportedly looking into Cuomo’s COVID-19 task force and examining how it handled residents of nursing homes during the coronavirus crisis. A report by New York State’s Democratic attorney general accused the Cuomo administration of dramatically under-counting coronavirus nursing home deaths. State lawmakers from both parties are pushing to strip Cuomo of his emergency coronavirus response powers.
