Three Long Island Teens Among First Female Eagle Scouts In U.S.

(Mineola, NY) — Three young women from Long Island, New York are among the nation’s first female Eagle Scouts. That’s an enormous honor, considering only six-percent of all Scouts ever make it to the rank. Lea Feiner of Levittown, Amrintha Jacob of Bellmore and Julia Kirpalani from Merrick each earned the coveted distinction. Nassau County Executive Laura Curran will honor the history-making teens next week as they join hundreds of other young women across the country comprising the nation’s Inaugural Class of female Eagle Scouts. The elite category requires participants to demonstrate true leadership, community service and initiative, earning 21 merit badges and six ranks, which can typically take anywhere from six to eight years.
