(Los Angeles, CA) — An L.A. City Council committee is advancing an emergency order providing an additional five-dollars an hour in hazard pay to grocery store employees. It would require grocery stores and pharmacies with ten or more employees on site or 300 or more employees nationwide to give staff the added pay for 120 days. The motion cites the increased positivity rate for COVID-19 among grocery workers as reason for the hazard pay. The Economic Development and Jobs Committee approved the measure unanimously yesterday.
