(Sacramento, CA) — California’s Employment Development Department reports another backlog of unemployment claims. As of last week, EDD spokesperson Loree Levy said over 916-thousand claims saw processing delays of 21 days or more. The logjam is due in part to the extra eleven weeks of jobless benefits former President Donald Trump signed into law in late December. That piece of legislation increased the pool of eligible applicants like those who own small businesses and independent contractors. Levy also said the high numbers of unprocessed claims are due in part to incomplete applications.
