One of the most iconic voices in sports broadcasting won’t be on the call this weekend. Al Michaels has been benched for the New York Giants and Cleveland Browns game in New Jersey Sunday because of NBC Universal’s COVID-19 protocols. In a statement, Michaels said he feels great, has no symptoms, and his temperature is normal. Mike Tirico will take over on the play-by-play duties. Both Cris Collinsworth, who performs color commentary for the weekly game, and Michelle Tafoya, who is the game’s sideline reporter, have both been cleared to work.
