Professor Robert Thompson from Syracuse University says streaming and cable services may have higher quality shows but broadcast TV still has bigger audiences.

”Networks make their income stream through the size of audiences which they sell to advertisers.”

Thompson says broadcast networks still make lots of money from reality TV, comedies and police dramas. And he notes many streaming companies are paying big bucks for old TV reruns because they bring in customers.

”All this prestige stuff is fine, but sometimes that old school, old fashioned network programming is paying the bills.”
