The cold Diablo and Santa Ana winds are heavy, and can pick up speed while dropping from higher elevations to sea level.  Forecasters say Wednesday and Thursday dry, frigid air from Canada will be making its way to the West Coast, fanning the flames of the several wildfires burning across the state.  Right now firefighters are throwing everything they have at the fires while the winds are calm, but with the winds returning, the fires could flare back up and embers can be carried up to a mile away to start a new fire.
