You might want to add bug spray to your Labor Day shopping list. A mosquito breed that’s fairly new to Southern California is causing a lot more bites.

It’s nick-named the “ankle biter” and it lives up to its name. Lora Young with Orange County Vector Control tells KTLA 5 that they like to bite people over and over and over. And, they’re spreading.

”When we started in 2015, we only had a few communities impacted. And now we have these mosquitos in 29 cities of the county as well as four unincorporated areas, and they’re definitely expanding every year.”

The aggressive bugs have not spread any diseases in Orange County, but the potential to transmit a dangerous infection like Zika is a real concern. Remember to drain standing water. Even a few drops can attract the ankle bitter mosquito.
