LOS ANGELES (CNS) – Marcie Edwards, the head of the Los Angeles
Department of Water and Power, will retire after holding the position for more
than two years, Mayor Eric Garcetti announced today.
Edwards will give up her post as general manager on Aug. 16, the mayor’s
office said in a statement. She will stay with the city until the end of the
year to assist with the transition.
“It’s been a privilege to lead LADWP through both difficult challenges
and transformative efforts to build a sustainable future for Los Angeles,”
Edwards said in a statement. “I am grateful to Mayor Garcetti for the
opportunity to serve my city.”
LADWP Operating Officer David Wright will serve as interim general manager.
Garcetti said the department had been “facing difficult challenges —
we needed a visionary leader to put our utility back on track, and that’s
exactly what Marcie Edwards has done.”
“She has left an indelible mark on our city, and I am deeply grateful
for her service,” he said.
Edwards spent more than a decade at the LADWP, rising through the ranks,
before going to work for other public utilities. She came back in 2014 to
lead the department, following the problem-filled overhaul of the customer
information system that resulted in thousands of erroneous bills being sent
out.
