No injuries were reported from an early morning fire and a series of magnesium explosions early this morning in Maywood…but the stink wafted all across parts of Southern California.
South Coast Air Quality Management District spokesman Sam Atwood says experts have been taking measurements to determine if the air surrounding the fire was toxic..he says results won’t be known for a day or so. The AQMD also issued a smoke advisory…asking residents to avoid strenuous activity. A Hazardous materials team was sent into Gemini Plastic Enterprises..
This man who lives nearby tells NBC Four news:
“When I heard the explosion there were huge flames…I mean the whole apartment inside– because of the windows– lit up”.
About 200 area residents were evacuated.
