Former City Councilman Dennis Zine accuses City Controller Ron Galperin of grandstanding after his Department of Water and Power audit showed no criminal activity.

“They went to Hawaii and had steak dinners, I said this is it,” said Zine, “I respect him, but where’s the evidence of something wrong?”

On McIntyre in the Morning, Zine claimed his criticism has nothing to do with Galperin defeating him in the race for Controller.

Galperin found that over a five year period, a handful of trust employees charged more than $660,000 to their publicly financed credit cards.  One administrator was even compensated $30,000 worth of gasoline for his personal vehicle during that time period, even though they already get a $500 monthly vehicle allowance.

Last May, Galperin told McIntyre in the Morning he believes the audit was successful, exposing the very cavalier attitude administrators had toward spending what he thinks is the public’s money.

“The way these trust were set up were done so that they were not necessarily subjected to the same rules as the city of Los Angeles,” said Galperin.

Zine was on the City Council when the two DWP non-profit trusts were created, and voted in favor of the trusts.
