New Sales Tax Proposed for The Bay Area Communities

Bay Area leaders plan to introduce a sales tax measure aimed at saving BART and Muni service. State Senators Scott Wiener and Jesse Arreguin’s sales tax measure proposal would be placed on the ballot in three Bay Area counties. The goal is to raise millions of dollars to prevent service reductions or even service eliminations on BART and Muni service. The lawmakers say both transit agencies could have significant funding issues very soon due to low ridership and rising operational costs.
