Southern California Edison, which is accused of starting the deadly Eaton Fire in Altadena, denied starting the Creek Fire in 2017. The Creek Fire destroyed 70 homes near Little Tujunga Canyon, after witnesses reported seeing a snapped line on a high-voltage transmission tower. It took until last year for an investigator with the U.S. Forest Service to determine the fire was caused by Southern California Edison.
The investigator did not get access to the company’s data until 2022. The federal government then filed a lawsuit, saying SCE caused the fire and withheld information that could have led to the origin of the fire being determined sooner. The feds are seeking 40 million dollars in damages.
