A Northern California city will unlikely get more state law enforcement to address crime. Governor Gavin Newsom says that the California Highway Patrol will not replace local law enforcement in the city of Vallejo, saying in part that the city thinks “somehow the state is going to come in and provide the support for free.” He urged the city to hire more officers, potentially partnering with the Solano County Sheriff’s Office. Previously, city officials and residents petitioned for additional law enforcement due to rising crime and staffing shortages. Last year, the CHP conducted law enforcement surges in San Francisco, Oakland, San Bernardino, and Bakersfield under Governor Newsom’s order.
