California Attorney General Rob Bonta is issuing guidance to protect the educational rights of immigrant students and their families in the state. Bonta says all children have the right to free public education, regardless of their or their parents’ immigration status. Schools must also accept various documents to prove a child’s age or residence and do not need to keep copies.
According to Bonta, the guidelines help California immigrants understand their rights and assist public institutions in updating their policies to follow state law.
