Donald Trump has been declared the winner of the 2024 presidential election by Congress. In a joint session, lawmakers finalized the announcement of a winner as part of the official process.
Vice President Kamala Harris, who lost to Trump in November, presided over Monday’s joint session of Congress in her role as president of the Senate and announced the results of the vote.
Trump won 312 electoral votes in November, compared to Harris’ 226.
The Electoral Count Reform act, passed by Congress in 2022 after the January 6th riots, clarifies that the vice president has only a ministerial role, with no power to set aside electoral votes.
