The Bay Area’s homeless population has hit a record high.  New federal data shows the homeless count in the region went up six percent in 2024 and now sits at just under 39-thousand people.  Analysts say the ongoing housing crisis in the region along with drug and mental health challenges continue to spur the surge in the number of homeless people.  California’s overall homeless population rose three percent last year to over 187 thousand people.
