Oakland has a new mayor, at least for the time being. Nikki Fortunato Bas has been officially sworn in as the city’s new temporary mayor, taking the place of ousted former mayor Sheng Thao.
Bas has been appointed interim mayor due to her former position as the City Council president. The City Council has set April 15th as the date of a special election to replace Thao, and Bas for that matter.
Bas recently won a seat on the Alameda County Board of Supervisors and will head there when her time in the mayor’s office is over.
