Chatbot company Character.AI is being sued for allegedly exposing underage users to sexually explicit, violent and harmful content.  NBC News’ Laura Jarrett reports the federal lawsuit filed in Texas alleges the service encouraged a teenage boy to engage in self-harm by cutting himself.

A separate lawsuit filed back in October accuses the chatbot of provoking a Florida teen’s suicide.  Google, which is named in the suit because of its investment in Character.AI, says it is a separate company and has never had a role in designing or managing the app’s AI model or technology.
