Thousands of undocumented immigrants who came to the U.S. as children can now enroll in lower-cost health plans in California. DACA recipients, or Dreamers, are included in the Affordable Care Act and can buy insurance from Covered California.
About 40,000 DACA recipients have become eligible. Special enrollment began on November 1st, and those who sign up by the end of the month will have coverage in December.
Most enrollees receive financial help with premiums. The change follows California’s expansion of Medi-Cal to all undocumented immigrants.
