People are leaving California in droves. That’s according to the annual report from the National Association of Realtors, which tracks home sales. California, by a wide margin, saw a net loss of more workers than any other state in 2023.
The group’s Matt Christopherson says the biggest motivator for those leaving California was home prices. Their study found that movers were looking for places where they could get more for the money. He says that the growing work-from-home movement is freeing people up to live where they want.
The association alo said California’s high state income tax was also a significant factor – driving workers to states with more affordable tax policies. Those top destinations were Texas (14%), Arizona (9%), Washington (8%) and Nevada (7%).
